Positives

- Great attitude - particuarly in the 2nd half.

27th November 11 - Coaches View

Best performance of the season, everyone did well.

Positives

- We retained the ball much better in the 2nd half
- Players in new positions adapted well to the role.
- Excellent all round effort.

Learning Points

- We can't let a player go unmarked from a corner, that was really disappointing.
- We need to play to the conditions - if the wind stops the ball going so far as normal we need to be where the ball is dropping.

- We played the simple ball in the second half and were much more effective.
- We adapted quickly to the different formations we tried during the game.

Learning Points

9th October - Coaches View

I was really pleased with our performance today and the contribution everyone made to it.

Positives

-          You all adapted to the formation change very well.

-          We were much sharper when breaking forward.

-          We retained better possession of the ball when attacking.

Learning Points

-          A few times we let the ball bounce which created problems.

-          When players switch positions we need to adapt to this quicker.

-          Midfield were drifting too far forward from goal kicks.

Overall I’m really pleased with the start to the season and progressing the furthest we have been in the Cup.

17th October update

Reminder that there is no game this weekend, as so many boys are away I won't be doing a training session on Sunday.
I do intend doing a session next Monday (please let me know if anyone apart from Jonny, Chris and Gareth can't make it).
The Cup Quarter Final Draw was made today by Don Rogers, we are playing Croft A on the 15th Jan, not Wroughton as the boys had thought.
Well done to the boys yesterday, they showed great determination.
Ian and I did speak to the boys afterwards about not getting involved in verbals with the other team and the importance of staying composed.
Rob

Sunday, 16 October 2011

Positives

- Great determination.
- Big thanks to Jake for his performance in goal.
- Good finnishing.
- Set pieces caused problems.

Learning Points

- Keep concentration - don't get involved in verbals.
- Ensure we are ready to play - we started poorly.
- Use the simple pass, release the ball early.

16th October 11 v Avonvale

Message Body

16th October - The game is at home, please meet @ 13.20 @ Hoopers for 14.00 kick off.
The squad members missing this game are Brad, Chris and Jonny.
Training - Many thanks to all the boys for the excellent turn out on Monday despite the late start, I really appreciated it.
23rd October - Game has been postponed and put back to later in the season, we didn't have enough players due to half term.
Rob

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

U16's - 4th October update

9th October - Away to Old Town

The game is @ Lydiard Park. We will meet at 9.30 for a 10.00 kick off.

The squad members missing the game will be Marcus, James and Josh Reynolds.

Avi

I wanted to let you know that Avi is giving up football to concentrate on Babminton which he is really doing well at.

Avi was at our very first training session, he has played 138 times for us, during which time Avi won the Parents Player of the Year Award three times.

Avi really will be missed, a big thanks from me for all his effort for the club, he represents everything I have asked the boys to be, 100% effort all the time no matter what the score, tackles hard but fair, encourages the rest of the team and is a great sportsman, it has been a pleasure to have Avi in the squad.

In one of our first games when Avi was our keeper he walked back into the net when going to kick the ball forward, it didn't make much difference as we were already 13 goals down - great memories.

I know everyone will wish Avi success with his Babminton.

Training - 10th October until 21st November is at PGL from 21.00 to 22.00.

I'm waiting for details but presume as per last year we enter via the side gate in the road leading to the Shepherds Rest and go to the main car park, the boys can then walk to the court.

I will bring the boys back promptly to the car park.

Home Games

Just to let you know I have taken on board feedback from the boys and will no longer do the end of match presentation in front of everyone, I will still do something but it will be in a different format which will be lower key and not involving the boys.

Thanks

Rob

2nd October 2011 - Croft B

Overall I thought today was a good performance, considering it was only our 2nd competitive game of the season.

Positives

- Excellent first league debuts for Keir, George and Mike.
- We created some good chances, particuarly in the first half.
- We matched a team who beat us 8-1 / 6-1 last season.

Learning Points

- Be first to the ball from rebounds, that cost us today.
- We must keep our shape and discipline, we can't afford for people to go out of position.
- The defence must come out together - we were too disjointed.
- Win the headers - too many balls allowed to bounce.

Rob

Training Update

Help on Home Match Day's

Home Matches - For home matches I would be grateful if at least one of you could come along 30 minutes before the boys are due to turn up to help with the nets.

I have made an excellent recovery from my heart attack but clearly this isn't the type of thing I should be doing on my own so your support would be appreciated, it does need a couple of adults to do it.

If you can come along please let me know before to save several of you turning up.

Training

3rd October will be at Hoopers from 18.00 to 19.15.

From the 10th October we will be at PGL, I'm afraid until the 21st November this will be from 9 to 10pm which I appreciate is really late for all of us.

PGL still has people attending until the 21st November when we will move the training to 8 to 9pm.

Thanks

Rob

- Positives

* Everyone worked hard, nobody gave up.

- Learning Points

* We conceded some really basic goals today, most of which we will discuss in training and cut out going forward.

Sunday, 20 March 2011

27th March 2011 - Home to Croft

Well done to the boys today.

Next Season

As we approach the end of the season I wanted to let you know that Ian and I intend to carry on running the team next season.

In order to plan for next season could you please let me know as soon as possible if the boys intend to carry on playing for Wanborough.

27th March v Croft

We are playing at Hoopers, meet at 13.20 (sharp to allow Ian and I to do the team talk and full set of stretches / warm up) for 14.00 kick off.

The squad members missing this game are Avi, James, Jack and Marcus.

A couple of volunteers to come down at 13.00 to help set up the nets etc would be appreciated.

Training

Will be on Saturday from 11.00 to 12.00 at Hoopers.

Wanborough Tidy Up

Please see below note from Club Secretary, Jon Raymond, if anyone from our age group could help out this would really be appreciated.

Each year there is a village clean-up in Wanborough, which includes some tidying up at Hooper's Field; normally involving some rubbish collection and re-spreading the stones on the driveway.  This year it is on 2 April, starting at 9.30am.

Hooper's Field is a valuable village asset and the Club is fortunate to be able to benefit from its facilities at a reduced rate.  As the U16 team is one of the users, it would be good if as many of the players (and their families) as possible, especially those from outside the village, could give a hand for a few minutes on the day.

Thanks

Rob

20th March 2011 - Coaches View

Today was a tough battle where we needed to compete for every ball, you did this surperbly.

Positives

- We batteld throughout and showed the required level of desire to win the match.
- Organisation improved as we went through the game.
- It wasn't a game where lots of passes where made but we still created several good scoring chances.

Learning Points

- When marking from corners everyone must take responsibility to mark and keep with the player until the ball is cleared.
- Don't just let somebody run across the pitch without ensuring they are marked.

Well done to all the squad today, because of the exceptional performance we didn't give out the coaches award, instead
the reward for the performace will be another event at the Futsal Centre at the end of the season.

Rob
