12th December - Blunsdon Game

Game cancelled due to a lack of players.

This is the 2nd game we have called off and we have played one game with 11 players.

Whilst it does call into question the viability of our age group continuing I do think we have been really unlucky in the first half of the season, if I look at the reasons how we got into this position for Sunday:

- Ryan / Alex - withdrew due to illness
- Avi - playing for Wiltshire Badminton team
- Josh Reynolds / Brad - recovering from injuries
- Chris / Guy / James - away for the weekend.

Having run this team for 7 years and previously an adult team for 4 years these circumstances are exceptional.

I would expect 2/3 people being n/a but any squad having 8 players missing would struggle.

I'm hoping that after Christmas when the boys are fit again we won't have to face this situation again.

We are due to be playing against Croft next week, could you please let me know if any of the boys are not available (home @ Hoopers - meet at 13.15 for 14.00 kick off).

After Christmas I will send you the fixtures for the remainder of the season, once the boys are fit I can go back to planning squads in advance.

All of our fixtures are on line at:

http://full-time.thefa.com, go to the North Wilts league and then Under 15's, Divison 3.

Thanks

Rob

The squad members missing this game are Josh Reynolds, Brad, Marcus and Jack.

An excellent performance, well done.

-Positives

* You adapted well to our tactics
* A good debut for Jack.
* Best performances for the club from Scott and Marcus.

- Learning Points

* It was sloppy to lose a goal from a corner.
* When to release the ball is key.

17th October - Coaches View

You showed good determination today to comeback which was good to see.

Positives

- Good organisation, we generally managed our marking in defence well.
- When we played the ball around we looked good.
- Several of you adapted very quickly to new positions.

Learning Points

- We can't allow players to have a free shot from the edge of the 18 yard box.
- We need to be sharper in the tackle in all areas of the pitch.
- Too many under hit basic passes today which gave the ball away.

Coaches Player of the Match - Jake, worked hard in different positions scoring 2 goals.

PGL - Training - 18th October

The instructions from PGL are to leave your car in the main car park for both drop off and pick up.

The site is being used so clearly PGL do not want cars driving to the training area.

They have also asked if we can walk over as a group to the court.

I will wait in the car park until 20.55 and then walk across to the training area to ensure we get the full use of our hour.

Derek is helping out this week, we will walk the boys back as a group.

They haven't stated what entrance to use, it is probably safest to use the main entrance.

I appreciate some of you haven't been to the PGL before, those of us in Wanborough go the back way but coming from Wroughton / Chiseldon directions are:

- At the Commonhead Roundabout take the 4th exit B4192 signposted to Aldbourne, Liddington and Baydon.
- Follow road for just over a mile, after crossing the motorway, turn left at the junction signposted Baydon and Little Hinton.
- Follow road for 3/4 mile(crossing back over the motorway).
-The entrance to PGL is on the left between two white lodges.
- Follow the road into the site, when you reach the small roundabout in front of the main entrance turn right, you will then see the main car park.

Any problems, call my mobile - 0791-702-4897.

Thanks

10th October - Update

Few things to note:

- No training on the 11th October due to the high number of boys going to the Swindon game (I think we would have struggled with the light anyway).

- Next week - 17th October - Away to Swindon Supermarine - Meet at 12.30 for 14.00 kick off (park at the County Ground - the pitch is between Tesco's and the County Ground).

Squad members missing the game are Jake, Avi, Alex, Jonny.

- PGL Training

Thanks for the quick response, the vote was a yes to the training from the 18th October to the 8th November from 9pm to 10pm.

Due to his work Ian can't attend for these weeks, Ray can help me on the 1st Nov, I therefore need somebody to come along on the 18th / 25th October and the 8th Nov.

Don't worry, I won't make you do overhead kicks, this is to ensure in the case of emergency we are covered and also to meet with CRB best practice.

Thanks

Rob

10th October 10 - Coaches View

We played some really good passing movements today, it was a good all round performance.

Positives

- We created space with our moves
- Some good finishing
- Our defence was much more solid

Learning Points

- We need to work more on the on field moves, this will only improve with more practice.
- We need to come out of defence in the line and listen for the calls to do this.

Well done to Jake on a good debut and Scott on his best performance for the club.

Coaches Player of the Match - Josh Reynolds - Good defending and very good use of the ball.

10th October - Home to Northern Lights

Sunday's game is home @ Hoopers.

The kick off is at 14.00, we will meet at 13.15 sharp.

The reason for meeting earlier is so that the boys can help Ian and I set up, it will be good team building.

The players missing Sundays game are Alex, James, Harry and Chris.

3rd October 10 - Coaches View

A really tough outcome following all your hard work, the positive thing for me was that we created lots of chances playing some good football.

Positives

- Lots of chances created
- Some good one two's around the box
- Everyone worked hard

Learning Points

- Poor marking from a goal kick cost us the the game, its something we speak a lot about but we didn't concentrate and we paid for it (the basics are goal side and sweeper doesn't mark).
- We can't let the attacker be first to the ball from a cross.
- Tackling was too weak in our last third.

Coaches Player of the match - Josh Rowland - Created lots of chances and worked hard throughout.

Rob

26th September - Coaches View

I was really pleased the way we followed up on lasts weeks game with another good performance.

Positives

- We created lots of chances
- There was no going for glory over the best pass for the team.
- We sorted out the marking against an unusual formation.

Learning Points

- We need to give more information to the player on the ball.
- We can pass the ball around more if an option isn't immediately on.
- Poor behaviour results in a booking.

Coaches Player of the match - Guy , excellent headed goal, worked hard for the team in several different positions.

19th September 10 - Update

Well done again to the boys today, it was a tremendous effort with all the odds stacked against us.

A few things to update you on:

  • Training - The session will be from 18.30 to 19.45 tomorrow, I will review the end time on a weekly basis.

  • Hoopers - Today showed that Ian and I need help in the set up of the nets, I was at Hoopers at 12.30 and am just ending now following doing the paperwork and prep for Mondays session.

Therefore anything to cut down on my time is appreciated, I would ask going forward if two parents could come along about 15 -20 mins before the meet time at Hoopers to set the nets up and whilst we do the talk at the end of the game also take the nets down / collect the corner flags.

Thanks to Trish, Pam, Janet,  Martin and Ray for helping out today.

  • Next weeks game is away to Penhill, meet at 10.00 for a 10.30 KO at Meadowcroft.

Given the amount of injuries it isn't what the squad is, its have we enough to put a team out.

For the boys that are carrying injuries could you let me know by Tuesday if they will be available next week - Josh Reynolds, Brad, Alex, Marcus.

With the exception of Ollie unless I hear otherwise I will assume all the other boys are fit.

  • Finally I wanted to say how good it was to see Josh, Brad, Ollie and Alex come along and support the rest of the squad today.

Thanks

Rob

19th September 10 - Coaches Review

A great effort from the boys today, the way you kept going despite being down to 10 players due to injuries was top class.

Positives

- Excellent attitude
- Communications were much better, we passed players on for marking when needed.
- Tackling was much better than in our opening game.

Learning Points

- Communications is key.
- In the first half we were too hurried on the ball, much better in the 2nd half.

Well done to Marcus who had a good debut for the team.

Coaches Player of the Match - Ryan - For excellent leadership in defence.

12th September 10 - Match Postponed

Please note that Sunday's game has been moved to the 10th October due to us not having enough players to field a team.

Given the number of people away there will be no training on Sunday, we will train on Monday and do the sportsmanship presentation after.

After next week I will review the time we end the training sessions.

5th September 10 - Coaches View

Some tough lessons for us today, however if we quickly learn from it we will be a better team for this experience.

Positives

- Much better performance in the 2nd half.
- We adpated well to different tactics and sharpened up significantly.
- We created good opportunities in the 2nd half.

Learning Points

-There is no substitute for hard workload and desire to win the ball.
-We can't afford to be 2nd to rebounds in the 18 yard box.
-We must challenge at corners.
-Tracking players runs is key.

Coaches / Parents player of the match - Will - showed great desire and determination throughout the game.

Rob

2nd September 10 - Coaches View

I thought tonights game was a really positive performance against a strong team.

If we play in the same way throughout the season you will enjoy your football this season.

Positives

  • Some good football was played.
  • Everybody was brave in the tackles and blocks.
  • Everyone worked hard throughout the game.
  • We were creative when going forward.

Learning Points

  • We didn't track midfield runs.
  • At times we let players get into positions behind us.
  • We were 2nd to rebounds
  • Quicker passing, we lost opportunities when a simple pass would have caused the opposition problems.

Overall a really good start to the season.

Well done to Ollie and Marcus on their first game for the club.

Sportsmanship Award

Great news, I have just found out that we won the Sportsmanship Award for last season.

As I have said before this reflects on all of us as a group, but especially the boys.

I suspect we are the first ever team to win both the league and the sportsmanship award.

To have won this award three times is a great achievement.

9th May - Details for League Presentation

Details for next week plus updates on the AGM, training and tournaments.

League Presentation - 9th May

Details from the league are below, basically we need to be in the Winners Lounge at Swindon Town Football Club at 5.15 for a 5.45 start.

The Winners Lounge is in the main stand (The nearest one to Tesco's alongside the cricket ground), the entrance is on same level as you walk along.

I suspect there will be lots of people going in and out, text or call me if you can't find the entrance (on my work mobile - 0791-702-4897).

The presentations will last about an hour.

Could you please ensure the boys wear the Wasps Black Short sleeve shirts, the boys can wear jeans, track suit bottoms or whatever they feel comfortable in.

The boys will have 16 places reserved, the rest of us will find a seat or stand up around the bar area.

The communications from the league:

LEAGUE PRESENTATION - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Could you please ensure that you arrive no later than 30 minutes before your scheduled

time and that the team are seated 15 minutes before the start of the presentation.

Dress code for players is either smart (shirt & tie) or casual team wear (tracksuits, polo shirts

etc.).

A photographer will be available to take team/individual photographs on the day and these

will be available for sale after each presentation.

Can you please make sure that only the team players receiving trophies take a seat in the

area reserved for this purpose? Any guests will unfortunately have to stand or be seated

in the bar area due to lack of space in the Legends Lounge. It is important that you make

your guests aware of this to avoid any issues or upset on the day.

A maximum of 16 trophies will be awarded for each team under 11s and upwards and 12

trophies for under 9s and 10s. Should additional trophies be required it will be necessary for

clubs to arrange these separately at their own expense through Don Rogers Sports &

Trophies.

Teams are requested to remain seated for the duration of the presentation and not to get

up and leave until it has been concluded as this is disrespectful to everyone.

Wasps AGM

Could you also please ensure the boys wear the Wasps Black Short sleeve shirts for the Clubs AGM.

Apart from looking smart this is also for safety reasons at the PGL.

Training @ Hoopers Field

Please note that for the remaining training sessions for this season (10th, 17th and 24th May) we are going to be training from 18.30 to 20.00.

The extra 30 mins provides time for fitness work, Ian and I want to see how this works as its an approach we are considering for pre season.

There will be no training on the Bank Holiday, 31st May, we will then have a c.6 weeks break.

I will give you pre season details nearer the time.

Tournament - 6th June - Supermarine

I'm afraid Supermarine have cancelled this tournament, I will find out if we can get into another one.

Well done to all the Squad on an excellent season, its really special to end the season as Champions.

This follows on from our Sportsmanship Award last season which shows that winning and sportsmanship can go together.

Positives

- Overall good performance, we didn't let the loss of an early goal against us impact the way we played.
- Everyone made a good contribution.

Learning Points

- Marking from Corners and Free Kicks.
- Keep the simple passing game going, once we started doing this we played a lot better.

Training @ Hoopers

A reminder that training on the 19th April and each Monday thereafter will be a Hoopers Field from 19.00 to 20.00.

This is an excellent facility, there are some common sense rules around the use of Hoopers which I will explain to the boys (don't go on the cricket pitch, kick the ball onto the tennis courts, kick the ball against the walls of the Club House, don't stand on the cricket screen etc).

Sorry, all seems a bit negative, I'm pointing these things out to you up front as any boy that breaks them will be sent home.

U14's - Champions

Congratulations to all the boys, we have won the league due to Shaw and Croft B drawing today (Ian and Will were at the game as witnesses ).

This is a great achievement, to win any league is tough.

For me the boys have won the league in the right way, they have shown respect in victory and sportsmanship in defeat.

There are lots of memories and we still have one game to go, for me the late comebacks in several games have demonstrated character from the boys which I have enjoyed seeing.

The important thing is everyone has contributed, its not just the goals scored, its the saves Jonny (and Harry against Shaw B) made, the vital tackles and blocks defenders have made that have got us to this point.

Once the season is over I will agree with the boys a suitable celebration.

Well done again boys, you have done the club and yourselves proud.

7th Feb 10 -Coaches View

To smash our passing target of 150 with 183 passes was a tremendous achievement, we will celebrate this at the end of the season.

Positives

- In 12 months our passing has improved so much ,last year we did 132 against the same team.
- Good finishing.
- Generally everyone played for the team and we kept our shape.

Learning Points

- Play the simply pass, keep your head up to see the passing opportunities.
- Still more work to do on our attacking moves but today was a good start.
- Knowing when to recieve the ball to feet and when to play the ball into space.

Parents Player of the Game - Guy, some good passing and tackling rounded off by a goal.

Coaches Player of the match - Used the ball well linking up the defence with the midfield.

24th January 10 - Coaches View

Key for today is that we learn the lessons very quickly, if we do it will make us a stronger side for the rest of the season.

Positives

- Great attitude in the warm up, this went through to making a good start in game.
- Some really good passing moves.
- Excellent individual goal from Alex.

Learning Points

- You can't let the person you are marking run free.
- We need to get the link up play right between midfield and up front (we will work on that in training).
- You can't stand and watch the other teams players when they have the ball.

  • Parents Player of the Match - Guy, good defensive display, kept to his position well.
  • Coaches Player of the Match - Ryan, good tackling and leadership in defence.
