28th Feb 09 - Coaches View

Really good performances from Liam and Jack who in truth showed many of the rest of you up.

To be successful at football you do need to display some desire to win, this includes tackling, chasing, blocking shots, we lacked sufficient desire today and that can only come from within, e.g. you decide if you will play like that.

Positives

- Good display from Liam and Jack
- Better performance in the 2nd half
- Good saves from Jonny

Learning Points

Too many basic errors, some of which are below:

  • Playing the ball back into the 18 yard box, we lost 2 goals today by doing that rather than clearing the ball up the pitch.
  • Too much hogging of the ball, if a player is in a better position pass it.
  • Throw the ball down the line rather than inside, once again this was done today playing us into trouble.
  • Stick to your positions on corners
  • Keep your eyes on the ball, several times you missed the ball completely because of this.
  • Simple passing, concentrate when doing it, too many times we made a mess of very simple passes.
  • Stand behind your player when marking. Today some of you went in front of the player and we lost the ball through that.

I spoke to you all about what some of you did charging and shouting at the ball at the end of the game.

To be clear it was embarrassing and as I said after the game if it is ever repeated or a similar thing takes place the people involved will be asked to leave the club.

Up until that point we were playing hard to the end which I ask of you.

That action made everyone connected with the club appear a joke which I will not tolerate.

Captains player of the match  - Harry, good tackling and determination throughout

Coaches Award - Liam and Jack, excellent all round performance making good use of the good.

1st Feb v Tetbury - Coaches View

I thought today was an excellent performance, the best of the season for me.

Positive

  • We played as a team working hard for each other
  • You passed the ball well
  • Good tackling in defence
  • We had a game plan created by Gareth which worked very well
  • You matched the team who are top of the league
  • There were no excuses about the weather, you got on with the game

Learning Points

  • We were second to the rebound for the first goal, as soon as a shot is made you need to chase in and be first to clear the ball.
  • Always be aware of a player moving into a position behind you, don't just watch the ball, watch the player you are marking as well.
  • In midfield we always need to be first to be ball (Mark and I will explain in training)

Captains Player of the match - Bradley - Two excellent goals, played intelligent football linking with the midfield to help us attack as a team. Great skill when scoring the free kick.

Coaches Player of the Match - Josh - Exceptional game winning tackles, headers, showing leadership in talking to the rest of the team and encouraging people, used the ball well when he had the opportunity.
